Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ promised that although His Church in this world would experience much tribulation "the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Mt 16:18). Burtnieki church and congregation throughout its 800 year history is a testimony to this foundational truth.
Via de Cristo is a three-day leadership school with a New Testament look at Christianity as a lifestyle. Via de Cristo is a highly structured weekend designed to strengthen and renew the faith of Christian people, and through them, their families, churches, and the environment in which they live and work. Via de Cristo acknoleges the diversity of gifts among God's people, but does not identify itself as a charismatic movement. Via de Cristo is a united effort of laity and clergy to aid congregations in developing Christian leaders to more effectively serve Christ in the church.
The Via de Cristo movement this year celebrates 15 years. To celebrate this anniversary more than 200 pilgrims gathered from all over Latvia on 14 October in Dobele for the 15 Year Anniversary Ultreya.
The event began with a communion service at Dobele''s Lutheran church. After the service everyone went to the Culture Center and shared a meal, enjoyed reunion, sang, shared, listened to some good speakers, laughed and shead tears of joy. In other words rejoiced in the Lord. The surprise of the evening was the Christian group "Jorspeis".
For this Ultreya visiting from America was Rev. Mārtiņš and Gunta Irbe (IN 8 and 7, the founders of VdC in Latvia), our Archbishop Janis Vanags (LV 7) and Liepaja''s Bishop Hans Martin Jensons (LV 4), both VdC pilgrims. The evening was magnificently hosted by Arnis and Ieva Sīpols (LV 9 and 10).
Thank''s to Inga Reča for the pictures (LV 17).
